Charithra Chandran is about to become a household name not only stateside, but also globally.

The 25-year-old British Tamil actor will star in season two of highly-anticipated Regency Era romance series Bridgerton — out on Netflix on March 25 — as Edwina Sharma. Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) is certain Edwina is the ideal wife he’s been looking for as he aims to get married this wedding season. Of course, not all goes to plan as he starts developing feelings for Edwina’s sister, Kate (Simone Ashley).

Chandran shared with Netflix how she was drawn to Edwina because of “how kind and genuine she was in this book. I think now, especially in this pandemic, we’re all desperate for kind and genuine people.” As the season progresses, Bridgerton fans will also get to know more about Edwina, who isn’t just the obedient younger sister, but will make the tough calls to find the happiness she wants in life.

We sat down with the actor to chat about how she petitioned the Bridgerton choreographer to add an Indian dance, her reaction to the “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham” cover in the Bridgerton soundtrack, what she unearthed while researching British South Asian history, and much more.
