South Asian Doctors are Bracing for the Worst

Immigration crackdowns are forcing physicians to plan for raids, detentions, and loss of control over patient care.

When Dr. Parin Chheda, a doctor from Georgia, watched a video of Border Patrol officers fatally shooting Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old Veterans Affairs nurse, he felt something inside of him break. 

“I have worked alongside ICU nurses my entire medical career. Most of my friends are in medicine,” Chheda told The Juggernaut. “I see death on a daily basis…I’m not easily moved to tears. I cried for that man.” Chheda felt compelled to post a video about the incident. “First they came for the Mexicans,” he addresses viewers. “How long before they come for you?” Chheda isn’t the only one. Across the U.S., South Asian American healthcare workers whom The Juggernaut spoke to are starting to feel deeply, deeply afraid.
