You probably already know that Anil Ambani is one of the heirs to the famed Dhirubhai Ambani empire — the biggest family-owned business in India. You might also know about the empire’s breakup after the patriarch died. Anil’s older brother, Mukesh, got oil and gas, petrochemicals, and textiles, while Anil got telecom, power, and natural resources. The Ambani brothers had a non-compete for 10 years, so they couldn’t enter each other’s industries. But as soon as that ended in 2016, Mukesh launched Reliance Jio, a telco that made mobile data cheap, sparked a smartphone boom, and changed the country’s trajectory. Today, Anil Ambani’s net worth is about $1 billion, while Mukesh’s is $117 billion, over 100 times his. 

So was Anil Ambani trying to gain more power? The Epstein Library mentions “Anil” over 300 times and “Anil Ambani” has 97 mentions, while and “Mukesh” has only 39. Bloomberg and other outlets even claim Anil Ambani tried to solicit a “tall Swedish blonde,” but they got it wrong. We read all the typo-ridden exchanges to understand what exactly transpired.
