Chirayu Rana is Back — With a New Case

When we asked Chirayu Rana whether anyone at JPMorgan, his former employer, had racially abused him, he demurred, saying only that “JPM has…apologized…for the racial slurs.” When asked whether JPMorgan was “super white,” he said, “I’m not going to comment.”

Months later, Rana has refiled his “John Doe” sexual harassment case against Lorna Hajdini, a JPMorgan executive, and JPMorgan. This time, his new 82-page federal complaint, filed in his own name by a new legal team, claims multiple instances of racism — with screenshots of alleged text messages. Rana claims his career was “irreparably destroyed” and is seeking damages. We spoke to Rana’s, JPMorgan’s, and Lorna Hajdini’s lawyers; asked employment lawyers to weigh in; and reviewed the new allegations in light of our exclusive interview with Rana. Here’s what we found.
