Comedian, host, author, and now actor-filmmaker, Lilly Singh has never shied away from doing it all. Now, with Doin’ It — her first feature film, which she co-wrote, stars in, and produced — she’s tackling her boldest project yet. The heartfelt sex comedy, about a computer science major who ends up teaching high school sex ed as a virgin, takes aim at one of the most ironic taboos in South Asian culture: talking openly about sex.
We sat down with Lilly Singh to chat about her lifelong obsession with Bollywood, why Hindi cinema isn’t so great at sex ed, the patriarchy’s grip on sexuality, and why she believes Brown girls deserve sex comedies, too.
